Hi neighbors,

Here’s a little of what’s happening behind the counter. Some coffee news, some packaging news, and one very small person on the way.

We’re planning a new Blue Water filtration system for our Easton Avenue café. Water goes into every cup of coffee, so it deserves some attention too. We’ll let you know when it’s installed.

Our Colombia Java Natural is getting closer to launch, with the first batch scheduled to roast on September 30. Next comes tasting it ourselves. We’ll tell you what we find, rather than getting ahead of the cup.

We’re also exploring better pickup and delivery packaging: simpler options when you order just one item, and better ways to pack a big order. One sandwich shouldn’t need a moving box. We’re still working through the options.

A bakery update, and an apology. Our in-house bakery selection is limited, and you may find those shelves empty when you visit. If you’ve travelled a long way for something we bake, we’re especially sorry. We know that’s disappointing.

We’ve reached the production capacity of the kitchen we built at 144 Summit Avenue in Jersey City. We’re working toward a move into a larger commercial kitchen, with the goal of making five to ten times as much as we can now. There’s work to do before we get there, but we wanted you to know what’s happening.

And a more personal update: one of our founders is expecting a baby in November. We’re cautiously figuring out how to balance running Hidden Grounds with getting ready for a baby. The newest arrival is unlikely to respect business hours.
